HMS Iron Duke was the lead ship of her class of four super-dreadnoughts, commissioned in 1914. She carried ten 13.5-inch guns in five centerline turrets, and her class was the first in the Royal Navy to mount 6-inch secondary guns.

She was Admiral Jellicoe's Grand Fleet flagship and led the British battle line at Jutland in 1916. Disarmed as a gunnery training ship under the 1930 London Naval Treaty, she was damaged by German bombers at Scapa Flow in 1939, served there as a depot ship for the rest of the war, and was scrapped afterward.
