Orion was the lead ship of the first "super-dreadnought" class, commissioned in 1912. She was the first British battleship to carry 13.5-inch guns, with all five twin turrets on the centerline so every gun could fire on either broadside.

She served with the 2nd Battle Squadron of the Grand Fleet throughout the First World War and fought at Jutland in 1916. She was paid off after the war and sold for scrap in 1922 under the Washington Naval Treaty.
