Fuso was Japan's first super-dreadnought, commissioned in 1915 with twelve 14-inch guns in six twin turrets. In the 1930s she was rebuilt with new machinery, a lengthened stern, anti-torpedo bulges and her famous towering pagoda mast.

She saw little action until October 1944, when she sailed with Admiral Nishimura's force into Surigao Strait during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. She was torpedoed by American destroyers and sank with almost all of her crew. This kit models her as rebuilt.
