Roma was the third Littorio-class battleship, commissioned in 1942 with nine 381 mm guns. Fuel shortages kept her in port for most of her short career.

After the Italian armistice in September 1943 she sailed to surrender to the Allies and was sunk by German Fritz X guided bombs, one of the first ships ever sunk by a guided weapon.
