USS South Carolina and USS Michigan
South Carolina and Michigan were the first American dreadnoughts, commissioned in 1910. Their eight 12-inch guns were mounted in superfiring centerline turrets, the layout every later US battleship would follow.
They were too slow to operate with the newer battleships, and spent the First World War on convoy escort and training duties. Both were scrapped in 1924 under the Washington Naval Treaty.
