Pinguin was the cargo ship Kandelfels, converted into a disguised commerce raider and sent out in June 1940. She captured or sank 28 Allied ships, including most of the Norwegian whaling fleet in the Antarctic.

On 8 May 1941 the heavy cruiser HMS Cornwall caught her in the Indian Ocean and she blew up, taking most of her crew and prisoners with her.
