Leander was the lead ship of a class of light cruisers commissioned in 1933 with eight 6-inch guns. She served with the New Zealand Division and became HMNZS Leander when the Royal New Zealand Navy was formed in 1941.
She sank the Italian auxiliary cruiser Ramb I in 1941 and was torpedoed at the Battle of Kolombangara in July 1943. After repairs she returned to the Royal Navy and was scrapped in 1950.
