Mogami was completed in 1935 as a light cruiser with fifteen 15.5 cm guns, then rearmed in 1939 with ten 20 cm guns as a heavy cruiser. This kit covers both versions on the IRCWCC list.
She collided with her sister Mikuma at Midway in 1942 and was rebuilt with a seaplane deck aft. She was sunk after the Battle of Surigao Strait in October 1944.
