La Galissonnière was the lead ship of a highly regarded class of light cruisers, commissioned in 1935 with nine 152 mm guns and a speed of over 31 knots. She served with the French Mediterranean fleet.
She was scuttled with the fleet at Toulon in November 1942 to keep her out of German hands. The Italians raised her, Allied bombers sank her again in 1944, and she was scrapped after the war.
